Among its many natural wonders, the <strong>Valley of Gangala (Gangala-no-Tani)<\/strong> stands out as a mystical forest formed within a massive collapsed limestone cave. According to our local guide, before the valley was developed, there was a hole at the top of the cliff near the entrance. When locals dropped stones into the hole, they would hear a echoing sound: <em>&#8220;Gala-gala, Gaan-gaan.&#8221;<\/em> This eventually became &#8220;Gangala,&#8221; and the name stuck!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/multipoints.jp\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_2700-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9375\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7500124669625492;width:275px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Highlights of the Guided Tour:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bTo protect this precious environment, the valley is only accessible via a <strong>guided tour<\/strong> (reservation required).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200b<strong>1. Inagu &amp; Ikiga Caves (Sacred Sites)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These caves have long been places of worship for locals. <em>Inagu<\/em> (female) and <em>Ikiga<\/em> (male) caves are known as sacred spots for praying for fertility and the well-being of family. The lush, jungle-like path leading there is filled with giant bamboo that grows up to 30cm a day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200b<strong>2. The Giant Banyan Tree (Ufushu-gajumaru)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most iconic sights in the valley is a 150-year-old giant Banyan tree. Its massive aerial roots reach down like natural pillars, creating a majestic and spiritual atmosphere. It\u2019s the perfect spot for a commemorative photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200b<strong>3. The Tree Terrace<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After climbing a wooden staircase, you\u2019ll reach the Tree Terrace. From here, you can overlook the site where the &#8220;Minatogawa Man&#8221;\u2014remains of prehistoric people from 20,000 years ago\u2014were discovered. It\u2019s a place where you can truly feel the scale of human history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200b<strong>4. Bugei-do Cave: A 2,500-Year-Old Mystery<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tour concludes at Bugei-do Cave, an active archaeological site. Here, you can see 2,500-year-old burial sites and ancient ornaments made of shells.
