Located in Nakijin Village in the northern part of Okinawa\u2019s main island, Kouri Island<\/strong> is a destination that feels like a dream. This was my second visit to the island, the first being back in 2019 before the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this trip, we hopped into our rental car and headed for this small island, renowned as one of the most breathtaking scenic spots in all of Okinawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Highlight Begins Before You Even Cross! The View from the Mainland<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before you drive across to Kouri Island, there is one spot where you absolutely must stop: the shore of Yagaji Island<\/strong> on the opposite side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spread out before your eyes is the “Kouri Blue”\u2014a sea so vibrant it leaves you speechless. The Kouri Bridge<\/strong>, stretching 1,960 meters long, cuts a perfectly straight line across the water as if slicing through the ocean to reach the island. This geometric beauty is the true essence of an Okinawan road trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Kouri Island?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kouri Island is a small island formed from raised coral reef, with a circumference of about 8km. While it was once only accessible by boat, the opening of the bridge in 2005 has transformed it into a popular, easily accessible destination for locals and travelers alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Geographically, Kouri Island sits at the gateway to the “Yanbaru”<\/strong> area\u2014the lush, forested northern region of Okinawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Excellent Accessibility:<\/strong> It\u2019s only a 30-minute drive from Nago City and very close to the Churaumi Aquarium, making it a perfect addition to any sightseeing itinerary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
