Exploring the Beauty of Okinawa: A Drive from Kouri Island to <Chura-Umi Aquarium>

After enjoying the breathtaking views of Kouri Bridge, we drove through Nakijin toward Motobu Town. Our destination was the highlight of Okinawa sightseeing: the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium.

Following the aquarium’s walking route, I’d like to share the incredible creatures we encountered through a series of photos and videos.

Shallow Water Creatures and Tropical Colors

First, we were welcomed by the inhabitants of the “Inoh” (shallow waters enclosed by coral reefs). From the geometric shapes of the sea stars to the vibrant tropical fish and the intimidating gaze of the moray eel, the diversity was stunning.

Unique Personalities

Moving further in, we encountered some of the sea’s more unusual residents. I was captivated by “human-faced fish” with its hauntingly familiar expression, along with the prickly crown-of-thorns starfish and the ethereal, shimmering squid.

A Dreamy, Shimmering World (Video Section)

Now, please enjoy these moments in motion. The drifting jellyfish offer a sense of tranquility, while the garden eels swaying in the current are simply adorable.

The Kuroshio Sea: Breathtaking Dynamism (Video Section)

inally, we reached the massive main tank. The rays glided past like a squadron of underwater birds, followed by the star of the show: the whale shark. Seeing its sheer size and graceful movement in these two video clips is a truly awe-inspiring experience.

Healing Manatees and Sea Turtles

After the main building, we visited the nearby pavilions. Watch the video of the African manatee happily munching on lettuce—it’s incredibly charming. We also stopped by the Sea Turtle Pool to see these gentle giants resting peacefully.

Closing Thoughts

This aquarium feels as if a piece of Okinawa’s magnificent sea has been preserved just for us, offering new discoveries and deep emotions with every visit. Watching the whale sharks glide serenely through the water and the vibrant tropical fish dance in the light provides a blissful escape from everyday life. When you visit Motobu, I highly recommend immersing yourself in this breathtaking blue world. A truly soul-soothing experience awaits you.
